Driving with a Co-Pilot
Some students don’t realise the importance of practicing with family or friends. The more driving experience you can get, the more it will help you. Don’t worry that you may pick up or learn some ‘bad habits’. As long as you put into practice what your instructor is teaching you, you might actually teach your family and friends a thing or two!
Anyone you practice driving with must:
1. Be over 21
2. Be qualified to drive the type of vehicle you want to learn in, for example they must have a manual car licence if they are supervising you in a manual car
3. Have had their full driving licence for 3 years
You can be fined up to £1000 and get 6 points on your provisional licence if you drive without the right supervision.
It is illegal for:
1. Your friend or family to use a mobile phone whilst supervising you
2. You to drive on the motorway whilst practicing with family or friends
